One Book, One City for Kids is an annual reading program that encourages all 5th graders in the city to read and discuss the same book. The program also strives to encourage a lifelong love of reading among students, to inspire readers to bring story ideas and themes to life through discussion, and to build collaborative ties between public libraries, school libraries, and area schools. This year the entire city will be reading Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper.

Before reading Sharon M. Draper's novel, "Out of my Mind," make some real world connections to what this title might mean.
Think about what the figurative language of being out of one's mind. Discuss the idea with your classmates and teacher. Make a real world connection by telling what the title means to you. Then give details about a time when you felt you were going out of your mind. Finally, conclude your paragraph by summarizing your experience.

A figurative phrase " out of my mind is like if you are in a car going on a family vacation and its to loud. They are throwing stuff and kicking the back of your seat and you cant take it anymore you shout out out of my mind.Another one is if someone keeps bullying someone everyday and you are tired of it you get mad.Then you tell the teacher and then it stops. Those are the ways i thing out of my mind is used.

I'm going to be making a real world connection with the book "Out of my Mind". The time when I was out of my mind was when I was at the Grand Rapids mall. It was so big and had so many stores of all kinds. It was like a jungle in there it was out of my mind. First I got my ears peers then I got to go to "Build a Bear Workshop". It was fun to go to the mall it was the best mall ever and I hope I can go back again soon.

You can say you people are driving me out of my mind and like class work you don't understand it and you never get it you don't got time to study you think to yourself this is out of my mind when you get home probably.One time when i was practicing dancing my sister would always come and mess me up. One time when she came in again i yelled at her you driving me out of my mind.
ReplyDeleteOne day i was out of my mind and this is all how it happened so my mom was sleeping and i was cleaning my room while my brother and sister were watching netflix and i went to tell my mom i was done and when i came down my sister and brother were jumping on the trash bag trash was falling out i felt like i was going to explode when they herd my mom coming they ran in the living room and my mom saw the mess and said clean up you room i got so mad i was out of my mind .
ReplyDeleteA time i was out of my mind is when my great grandma died,and a few days later i thought i saw her it was a shadow it wasn't mine and it wasn't someone in the house and then i saw it again and again and i still see it form this day in on.
ReplyDeleteThe time i went out of my mind was when i was really sleepy and i was doing weird things like dancing weird,and just laughing out of no were.My mom and the rest of my family that were there was just laughing.That's what i always do that when im tired.Then i just finally past out.Also when i woke up it was silent and my favorite little nieces were there i was so happy.

He was making very angry with him . I could not stand his whining and I kept wishing he would stop .But he did not stop until we took him home to his dad's house . Then I said "Finally some peace and quit".
ReplyDeleteThe first time I went out of my mind is when my niece peed on my bedroom floor.That happened when I gave her a bath. After she got out of the bathtub, I took her in my room so I could get her dressed for bed. After I got her dress I recognized that she was peeing on my floor and I didn't notice that until she started peeing and then i notice that i did not put her dipper on.

Then I looked into the drivers seat, and saw candy rapers on the dashboard."Why is there candy rapers on the dashboard?" I asked. my mom told me that her and dad were eating my candy.
