Based on details in the text, how does Melody feel about school? How does she fit in with her classmates?
One Book, One City for Kids is an annual reading program that encourages all 5th graders in the city to read and discuss the same book. The program also strives to encourage a lifelong love of reading among students, to inspire readers to bring story ideas and themes to life through discussion, and to build collaborative ties between public libraries, school libraries, and area schools. This year the entire city will be reading Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper.

DeleteAbout school,Melody feels like nobody thinks she is smart. Other people think she is just plain dumb.She said that she knows how the rest of the kids feel in her classroom because that's how she feels but worse.That's what the book tells me how Melody feels about school.

DeleteI think Melody feels good and sometimes feels annoyed, but she hates doing the snowman. She sometimes really gets mad because nobody gets her or knows what she's saying. So, I think she probably does okay or she maybe likes it.

She doesn't have a lot of balance on the wall just like how Humpty Dumpty.In the first chapter she said her legs where skinny when her dad held her in his hands. Her parents would put her on the sofa and she would tip over onto her green carpet.

She knows a lot more than they do, but she can't tell anyone because her class only expects them to learn a little bit not a lot .The sitter she has helped her, but she does not like school because people think she is stupid.

ReplyDeleteMelody was a smart girl,but she can't express her thoughts or even move on page 9 it says my arms and hands are pretty stiff,but i can mash the buttons on the Tv remote and move my wheelchair with the help of knobs that i can grab on wheels. I can't hold a spoon or a pencil without dropping it.

ReplyDeleteMelody felt like she wasn't really fitting in at her school with the kids in Mr. Dimming's class until she made friends and got into the wiz kids team. Melody thought people were going to say mean things to her like be embarrassed to be around her or make fun of her for being disabled but they are actually nice when Melody rolls into her class room. They make Melody fell happy about her first day in Mr. Dimming's class room, especially when she finally figured out she has been chosen to be in the wiz kids.

Like when one of the teachers was playing the alphabet. And it might not seem like a big deal but they were playing that song over and over again. But when Melody’s mom found out they were filling their minds with mindless activities she knew why they were mad. So in conclusion Melody does like school but every one doesn’t know how smart she is.

I think she loves her school and her friends because her friends make her fill happy. That is why I know she loves her school.

ReplyDeleteOn page 28, Melody says the "regular" kids don't pay much attention to the kids in her class. Melody says on page 38, "I like all the kids in H-5 and I understand their situations better than anybody, but there's nobody else like me." Melody likes her class, but she is frustrated that's she's not learning more.
ReplyDeleteMy pick will be Ashley, she is really beautiful and she has movie star eyes, she has long curly hair, also a tiny pixie nose. She looks like a doll,except prettier. She dresses perfectly macthed everyday. She would wear a pink shirt with pink slacks, pink socks, and two tiny pink bows in her hair. Even her nails are pink. She is the youngest in thier group, she pukes quite a bit. She's nine, but she could pass for three. She has a small wheelchair melody's ever seen. So we clearly know that she is the small pretty one in the story, and the reason I picked her is because usually people don't talk about her in the story, and it is basically because it's about melody. And that will go for all characters in the story. So I should do Ashley.

I think Melody does not feel good about school because like she said at recess nobody pays attention to her nobody asks Melody to play.Kids act like shes invisible .Her class room still looks like its for babies and t does not change every year.

What I think about Melody and her school is that it's not a perfect place for her to learn. Melody say it'll be nice for babies. Also, about her classmates, what makes her fit in is that Melody's class mates are kinda like Melody. Their age. And there's some classmates on wheelchairs, just like Melody.

In Melody's opinion I think that school for her is very complicated and disappointing.And to support my answer in the book it said that the regular kids would pass by Melody without saying hi or nothing.Also Melody's teacher's would treat her like if she was the dumbest person on earth when she is really smart and intelligent.
