Describe Melody's feelings when she is unable to tell her mother what really happened to Ollie?
One Book, One City for Kids is an annual reading program that encourages all 5th graders in the city to read and discuss the same book. The program also strives to encourage a lifelong love of reading among students, to inspire readers to bring story ideas and themes to life through discussion, and to build collaborative ties between public libraries, school libraries, and area schools. This year the entire city will be reading Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper.
Melody's feelings when she was unable to tell her mother what really happened to Ollie was that she was sad,mad and wished that she could tell her mom what really happened.I know this because in paragraph 8 on page 63 and 64.This means that she also was irritated and wish her mom had went there sooner.
ReplyDeleteI think Melody felt mad about not being able to tell her mom about it not being her fault that Ollie died. It says it on p.g. 64 paragraph 5 "I was angry that I couldn't tell her what really happened". This means Melody was mad at her mom for being slow, and not being able to tell her mom the truth.

When Melody was trying to get her moms attention she was kicking,because she really tried to save Ollie's life.That means Melody has more than one feeling about not being able to tell her mother about what really happened.

ReplyDeleteI think Melody felt mad and sad because she could not tell her mom the truth about how she was trying to save Ollie. I found my answer on page 64 paragraph 5. This means Melody wished she could tell her mom what really happened,and how Ollie jumped out of his bowl.

DeleteMelody felt sad and mad when she heard Ollie did not make it ,and her mom thought she killed him. I know that because on page 64, paragraph 4, sentence 4, 5, and 6, it says "She was angry, and I was too. If she hadn't been so slow, Ollie might have made it. I did not want her to see me cry.This means that Melody had these feelings and emotions about Ollie and her mom.

ReplyDeleteWe know this because we found it in the 8th chapter page 63 paragraph page 2.This means that Melody was frustrated about not being able to express herself.
When Melody was unable to tell her mom what happened to Ollie she felt sad and mad because the fish died and if her mom hadn't been so slow to grab water then the fish wouldn't of died. On chapter 8 page 64 it said if mom wasn't so slow,Ollie might have mad it. that means Melody was sad and mad.

DeleteMelody might have felt upset because when she got blamed for it she didn't have in excuse for what the fish has done. So when melody's mom came and said what happen to the fish melody wasn't able to say anything so the mom just blamed it on melody because she is known for spilling things because in previous times the mother thought melody did it but since melody cannot speak the mother just assumed that melody did it so in melody's mind she's thinking I did not do anything but mother thought she did.

So when Melody's mother thought she tipped the fish bowl she got blamed because her mother remembers from the past that when she is either getting fed or something else. That she is known for spilling things so that is why I agree with that answer.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you because . When she tried to put the fish back in the bowl then it fell and cracked . When melody's mother came in the bowl was cracked next to her and that's what made her mom get mad at her.

Melody felt really disappointed because Ollie had jumped out of the fish bowl and she couldn't tell her mom because her mother didn't come right away, but then her mother came to come help the fish and put it back inside the fish bowl and later that day the fish had died.

Melody saw Ollie jump out the bowl and she tried to save Ollie by splashing the bowl of water on him so he can breath and survive before he died, she tried and tried but he died and she was calling her mom by screaming, but she didn't come up stairs asap because she couldn't hear or just didn't listen to her. Then Melody screamed and screamed then her mom came down stairs and it was wrecked so she got mad at Melody and I bet she felt so,so sad. I feel really,really bad for her.

DeleteAt first Melody was confused because why her mom didn't know why she was screeching. She knew it was too late because the water had to be the right temperature, not just stink water because it is going to be too cold and too hot.

Melody probably felt like that is unfair for her to try to save ollie but she still gets excused of killing the fish.I felt that it was unfair for her mom to excuse her and how she got mad at Melody when she can't use her hands,well i guess a little but if she still she can't really control it and if she can't control it then she might tip something or break something but you need to remember she is not good at using her hands,arms,legs so her mom doesn't need to blow a fuse.

Melody was feeling sad and angry at the same time. I think think that she might have been sad because of when Ollie jumped out of his fish bowl. Melody tried to save him by screaming for help but her mom or no one else came.So Melody took it into her own hands and tried moving the fish bowl to get water on Ollie to save him but it didn't work and he died.I think that Melody was mad because she couldn't get help and Ollie died but also because her mom took the anger out on Melody even though it wasn't her fault.

I also think that she was mad at herself because she couldn't scoop the fish back up and put it back in the water to survive. She wished that she was different so she could speak to her mom, and tell her what really happened with Ollie jumping out of the bowl and Melody got in trouble for trying to help (she was trying to help by dumping the water out,but that made even more of a scene that made it look like her fault just by trying to help but she couldn't really explain it to her mom).

She wants to tell her mom that Ollie actually jumped out of the bowl and that she tried to put him back in the bowl but since she couldn't move her hands she couldn't put him back in the bowl. She also wanted to yell and tell her mom to come up the stairs because Ollie jumped out of the bowl but she can't talk so she couldn't say anything. Then her mom blamed her for Ollie's death when she wanted to help but she couldn't. That is why she was angry when she couldn't do anything.
