One Book, One City for Kids is an annual reading program that encourages all 5th graders in the city to read and discuss the same book. The program also strives to encourage a lifelong love of reading among students, to inspire readers to bring story ideas and themes to life through discussion, and to build collaborative ties between public libraries, school libraries, and area schools. This year the entire city will be reading Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper.

ReplyDeleteI think melody is helpful,brave,believes in her self and she tries to find a way how to get out of a situation on her own and she works very hard at school so her mom would be proud of her.
ReplyDeleteMelody is frustrated in the first chapters because she cant talk nor walk. but in chapter 15 she becomes happy because she got a Medi-talker which is a computer that allows her to say a lot of words. such as thank you and other words. she ordered the medi-talker on a Wednesday before Christmas. she came back from school and Mrs.v was waiting for her and then they went inside the house and there it was on the table. then opened it and put a lot of words, music, phrases and jokes and names of her classmates,teachers,parents,penny,and Mrs.v.

DeleteMelody's character is a girl who is disabled in a wheel chair and she has been disabled in a wheel chair ever since she was little. Melody's character us actually sad at the beginning of the novel because she can not walk,talk,or even eat without needing help,she cant even use the bathroom without help or tipping over. Melody;s character is surprisingly amazing in the story to the kids in Mr.Dimming's class because she is extremely smart and talented but nobody knew that until she got her special talking keyboard.Melody's character is mostly trying to impress the kids in Mr.Dimming's class and trying not to embarrass room H-5 and also try not to embarrass herself. Melody is perfect the way she is but the world and her don't notice that yet.

She is also very unappreciated. She can't physically present her intelligence, but she is on the inside.
Melody actually looks out for other people, like with the lead poisoning block incident, and people just think she is crazy and retarded, and people would know if they really paid attention to her, and saw who she really is.
