One Book, One City for Kids is an annual reading program that encourages all 5th graders in the city to read and discuss the same book. The program also strives to encourage a lifelong love of reading among students, to inspire readers to bring story ideas and themes to life through discussion, and to build collaborative ties between public libraries, school libraries, and area schools. This year the entire city will be reading Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper.

STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
December 19, 2016
Discuss Melody's teachers since she began going to school using specific details from the text. What does this say about the attitudes at her school about teaching students with special needs?
Melody’s teachers are well some of them know how to teach the class, but other teachers for that class think that they incapable of learning so they feel their mind with mindless activities. But just because of what some people look like others might treat them like they’re not like the others. Or they think they are dumb but they’re smart like everyone else but just look different.
Melody’s teachers are well some are good and some or bad because some of the teachers teach them like normal people without special abilities and some of the teachers teach them like kindergarteners because they think they are incapable of learning
STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS December 19, 2016 Discuss Melody's teachers since she began going to school using specific details from the text. What does this say about the attitudes at her school about teaching students with special needs? The teachers she’s had are very different. Her second grade teacher was very nice, because she let Melody listen to the books being read by other people. Everything changed when she got in third grade, because her third grade teacher thought they all were not intelligent. She was dumbfounded when she found out she was underestimating the kids in H-5. Simon Tallent Coit Creative Arts Academy
Melody all way's think the other kid's are batter then her because when is time for A break or go outside the other classmates Don't play with her and the don't ask her if she wan't to play with them and they treat her like she's invisible because she's in A wheel chair.
The teachers in Melody's school did not seem very excited to have Melody, Freddy, Marcia etc. Except for the music teacher, Ms. Lovelace. Even Mr. Dimming had not fully wanted Melody in his class until he realized that Melody was really smart.
Her first teachers were used to that kind of thing,it was their job to teach the special needs children, Ms. Billups treated them like babies and they were second graders, halfway through the year, But her inclusion teachers didn't respect them the same ways as the "regular students."
Melody's 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Billups treated them like they were the preschoolers, going over the alphabet every morning and the sounds of the letters as well, well, until Melody's mom confronts Mrs. Billups, then she doesn't go over the ABC's every day.
She likes the fact shes not lonely like usually, but hates that people talk and tease her. Her teachers are nice, but some think Melody is mentally stupid and the other teachers may think she is like the other and is smart. Those kind of nice and think good about Melody are really mean and sriced talking to the people who tease her.
When Melody was in third grade her teacher, "Mrs. Billups put it on, full volume, and repeated it over and over. Every day." Melody's teachers are not aware of what Melody and her peers are capable of. They don't try to help them learn more. Her teachers may think that she doesn't know anything or she can't remember anything or isn't able to learn.
Melody`s Teacher always teach the same stuff they kept hearing the old Mc Donalds had a farm song and the abc`s song. Melody got mad because she was was hearing the music but she Didn`t like it so she got mad and started pounding the table. The Teachers were nice though but they kept teachning the same stuff to the kids.
Melody thinks that her teacher may think that she doesn't know any thing or that she can't remember anything or isn't able to learn. Melody knows that she is capable of learning. when Mrs. Billups put on one of the kids songs wich was old MacDonald. Melody hated that song especially the abcs.
when melody was little the teachers didn't understand that she really didn't like little kid stuff. When melody got older teachers started to understand what she likes and what she doesn't.
Melody's teachers are just fine for her. Her classroom has aids for the special needs kids to do the stuff those kids cannot do like go to the bathroom by their self or feed themselves and wiping their mouths. The aids never stay long because the special needs kids are a very hard bunch to handle.
Melody seems to have the most trouble with her teachers and if my teacher thought i was capable of learning then i would would have trouble too.One problem is none of the teachers ever give the class and Melody choices.Sydney the snowman Melody and her class have to work on it Melody and her class hate it but her teachers never give the Melody and her class a choice.Another problem is Melody's teachers think shes not capable to learn.Melody was getting taught the alphabet in third grade. And The attitude i think comes from her teachers because she had to listen to the same CD every day, decorate the same snowman every year, get taught the alphabet in third grade i would have in attitude too. Gabreal at sherwood
i think that melody does not like school for only one reason:she has special needs plus her i think it was 3rd grade teacher i dont quite remember but that teacher that i dont remember thought they couldnt remember like "normal kids" and was still practicing how to say b how it sounds and what number of the alphabet the letter b was
The teachers were very ignorant and thought that they were dumb although some of them were very nice. All of these mean attitudes tell us that this school in the book is treating the special needs kids as retards
well melody didn't like going to her special need class because the teachers who helped her learn babied her.one teacher who was teaching the ABC and they were 6 months and they were only on the B letter.there was one teacher who was ok because she brought in new things for melody and she liked it.Then she goes to a regular class and is not treated like a baby for that day.
I disagree with you. Her teachers know that she wants to learn but, they dont know what she is capable of,they dont know whats she trying to tell them. DIAMOND@SHERWOOD
