One Book, One City for Kids is an annual reading program that encourages all 5th graders in the city to read and discuss the same book. The program also strives to encourage a lifelong love of reading among students, to inspire readers to bring story ideas and themes to life through discussion, and to build collaborative ties between public libraries, school libraries, and area schools. This year the entire city will be reading Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper.

ReplyDeleteJanuary 25,2017 Ollie,the fish in the aquarium,and melody all share one thing they all can't talk they all must have millions of ideas but can't express them.
ReplyDeleteThe comparison between Melody and her fish that they can't talk to people also same as the fish at the aquarium.
ReplyDeleteMelody, her fish, and the fish at the aquarium are all alike because they all have things to say but can't tell anybody. Another reason they are alike is they all wish they could be free and they are trying to escape.

ReplyDeleteShe learned that not everyone at the aquarium has feelings because someone there was really rude to her about Rose wanting to go to the aquarium with Melody. Also she was sad because Rose was talking to Penny because Melody wanted to talk to her own sister so Melody got kind of jealous.

ReplyDeleteMy Frist Computer was when my dad went cristmas shopping then I said dad can you buy that computer then he said how much is it I said about 20 dallors he said get it and if it was not a computer it was my tablet.I was 9years old in the 4th grade and i was so happy i got a tablet for cristmas i was in detroit.

DeleteOllie the fish,the fish at the aquarium,and Melody are alike because none of them can tell people what they really feel like.In chapter 13,p.g.118,paragraph 6 it says "Inside,fish tanks go from floor to ceiling.I think of Ollie.He might have been happy here.In one tank sharks swim overhead,just like we're actually looking up from the ocean floor.Okay,so Ollie might not have been so happy in that tank." Melody is confined to her wheelchair just like they are confined to tanks.
ReplyDeleteIn our opinion Ollie,the fish at the aquarium,and Melody's life are the same because they all are trapped in a little space. For example the fish in the aquarium, Ollie, and Melody can't express their feelings and they can not go any where. We know that because in chapter 8, on page 61 it says Melody actually thought Ollie's life was better than hers. Also, in chapter 13, pages 118, and 119 it talks about the different fish and Melody thinks Ollie would have been better there. This means all Melody, Ollie, and the fish from the aquarium have a lot of things in common.
ReplyDeleteOllie's life is different from the fish in the aquarium and Melody's life because Ollie lived in a small bowl.The fish in the aquarium lives in a giant fish tank,and Melody is living her life in a wheelchair.This information is in paragraph 13.This means that three characters Ollie, the fish in the aquarium, and Melody have different things in their life,but they also have something in common .They lived their lives trapped.

ReplyDeleteMelody's life and Ollie's life are very similar. They are both stuck in one place and they both want to get out.Melody is trapped in a body that can't function right,and Ollie's stuck in a fish bowl where there's no way out.And that's how their lives are stuck in one place.

DeleteOllie was just a lonely fish swimming around in circles all day.The fish in the aquarium are put to great care because a lot of employees help them.Melody is stuck just stuck in her wheelchair and can't move can't talk can't really do anything.

DeleteA comparison between the aquarium fish and Ollie and Melody is that they all feel trapped.A way that they are different is that Ollie lived in a small fish bowl and Melody's wheelchair is her fish bowl and the aquarium fish are trapped in a big glass filled with water. A simile is that they all have a shark .Molly and Claire are Melody's sharks and the fish in the aquarium have real sharks and Ollie the fish has a shark named Melody because he probably thinks that she killed him.Those are some comparisons and differences.

DeleteA comparison about them is that they all had to stay in one place at all times, and they were all having a hard life. One of the tanks had a mixture of fish including sharks and a comparison about that is that the other fish in that tank, Ollie, and Melody wouldn't want to be in that tank because they would all be eaten alive. Melody even said " Ollie might not have been so happy in that tank"

DeleteAll three of them have similarities because there not able to a lot of things. All three of them are stuck in something. Melody is stuck in her wheel chair and Ollie used to be stuck in his bowl. And the fish in the aquarium are stuck in their tank. A difference is that Melody at least can go to different places. Another difference is that the fish in the aquarium are surrounded by fishes, and Melody isn't, neither was Ollie.

DeleteThe similarities between Melody,Ollie, and the fish in the fish tank are that Melody has sharks in her life just like the fish in the fish tank. And Melody's sharks are Molly and Claire. And I also believe Melody,Ollie,and the fish in that fish tank all feel trapped because Melody is trapped in her wheel chair and Ollie and the fish are both trapped in fish tanks. Also Melody and the fish tank both have other people or fish,but Ollie had nobody which I think could be one reason he jumped out the fish bowl. And some differences are that the people around Melody help her not like the fish and the sharks. And I think that's why Melody changed her mind quickly when she saw the sharks and said Ollie would like it there. And those are some similarities and differences between Melody,Ollie,and the fish in the fish tank.

DeleteThey all feel trapped the fish in the Aquarium they are struck in a. Big tank and with other fishes but, for Ollie has to stay in a small tank by her self . Then she diced to jump out and be free and be with others fishes melody was trapped in a chair and she wishes that she doesn't have to be in a that chair.The Aquarium fishes to be with others but with Ollie she has no one to be with.

Penny slaps the tank every time fishes come more fishes "Penny" said as Ms.V was writing down every fish and takes pictures but Ollie is just like he is trapped in that tank and Melody fells like she cant do anything she feels like she is not special anyway she had felt sad. That"s why I think that melody is like Ollie, and the fishes

ReplyDeleteHer are some comparison's about Ollie and Melody. THey body with they weren't stuck in one place as in,Melody is stuck in a body that doesn't function properly. And Ollie's stuck in a fish bowl with no possible way out. And there's some difference's too. As in Ollie probably thinks Melody is the enemy now because she killed him but didn't mean too. Plus Ollie would of been better off at the aquarium because the fish there get better care and have a bigger tank.And Ollie only gets like a 5 inch tank.
